The Axis is a modern classic, adored for its tasteful singlecut body shape, comfortable neck and powerful dual humbuckers. The Sterling Sub version gives you the fundamentals of this popular Music Man guitar design, but at a far more attainable price.
Construction
As a pure rock axe, the Axis is formed from a lightweight Basswood body with a bolt-on Maple neck. The Basswood serves as a fantastic tonal foundation for the thick-sounding humbuckers, ensuring a balanced tone with a particularly strong mid-range.
The Maple neck provides a bright and vibrant top-end, with the bolt-on design giving some extra bite and snap to notes, making sure that you feel an immediate response. Adorned with a Jatoba fingerboard, this gorgeous material offers a super-sleek feel under the fingers, working well in conjunction with the modern neck profile to deliver amazing playability.
Electronics & Hardware
The high-output SBMM humbuckers project a powerful tone, and are truly in their element with overdrive or high-gain distortion. With a clear and focused sound, cutting through in a mix shouldn't be an issue with these potent pickups.
Master volume and tone controls allow you to tame the output and highs respectively, with the 3-way pickup selector switch letting you enjoy the unbridled bark of the bridge humbucker, the smooth and creamy sound of the neck coils, or the best of both worlds for full-sounding cleans.
The Music Man-style tremolo offers a smooth action thanks to its low-friction two-point design, letting you add gentle warbles to chords for some surf-rock sounds, or even pull off some EVH-esque divebombs!
